Do you think that there is no risk? Think twice…
Sexually transmitted diseases include a number of infections caused by different viruses and bacteria that affect billions of people around the world, many of them young. Often cause serious short and long-term complications, symptoms can be very varied and, unfortunately, there are many myths. Early treatment is very important. Keep reading to keep you informed.
Many times when you think about the sexually transmitted diseases , people think about AIDS , and they forget that there are many other sexually transmitted diseases or sexual contact (STDs) as borne diseases : syphilis , gonorrhea , chlamydia , herpes , the virus human papillomavirus , trichomoniasis , anyway.
The fact is that several of these sexually transmitted diseases have been with us for centuries. More frequent than many other infectious diseases affecting millions of people each year are. For example, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, for its acronym in English) estimated that in the US alone 20 million new cases of STDs were diagnosed in 2013, half of the cases in people between 15 and 24 years. And this, considering that not all cases of sexually transmitted diseases are reported to the authorities. Imagine!
Each of these infections potentially threatening the health of the short or long term increases your risk of contracting the AIDS virus and may increase the risk of complications related to reproduction (such as infertility or ectopic pregnancy ) . For these reasons, sexually transmitted diseases should be taken seriously.
There is a number of MYTHS about sexually transmitted diseases that I would like to share with you:
- Venereal diseases are contracted the toilet, drinking beer, through pools.
- Once you have a venereal disease develops immunity (and
no you can give back)
- You
can not have more than one sexually transmitted simultaneously.
- If I have no symptoms, I am not sick (a).
- If I am
pregnant I don't have this.
- You
can not acquire venereal disease "clean" people.
- If I remove the symptoms, and I was cured, I have to go to the doctor.
- Sexually transmitted diseases are not serious.
- If I take birth control pills which will get cured me.
The truth is that sexually transmitted diseases or STDs are spread only when you have sex with an infected person and can be very dangerous when not treated. They can cause infections in other parts of the body, sterility, can affect the baby during pregnancy or at birth and can even cause death. All need treatment.
Symptoms can be varied. From feel perfectly well, to notice a discharge in your underwear, noticing lesions or pimples on the genitals, to have abdominal pain and fever require hospitalization for treatment. I recommend you do not try to diagnose you alone (a) and that you avoid home treatments that can not only be ineffective, but can also be dangerous. I remember the case of a patient gasoline was applied to "try to heal", and the result can imagine ... ..
In Part 2 we will explain what to do if you suspect you might have an STD and how to prevent it.
